CODE OF CONDUCT
Affiliated with ENYYSA & LIJSL
Applies to Players, Parents / Guardians, and Coaches
Purpose
This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for behavior on and off the field. It is designed to promote a safe, respectful, and positive environment for everyone involved in youth soccer — players, coaches, parents, referees, and spectators.
By joining our club, all players, parents/guardians, and coaches agree to uphold the standards of the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) and the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL), in addition to the club-specific expectations below.
Player Code of Conduct
As a player, I will:
Respect the Game
- Follow the rules and the spirit of the game.
- Accept referee decisions without arguing or complaining.
- Play fairly, without cheating, diving, or taunting.
Respect Others
- Treat coaches, teammates, opponents, and referees with respect at all times.
- Avoid foul language, bullying, or disrespectful behavior — on or off the field, including on social media.
Give My Best Effort
- Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to play.
- Work hard at practice and in games.
- Stay focused, coachable, and positive regardless of the score.
Show Good Sportsmanship
- Congratulate teammates and opponents.
- Never gloat when winning or sulk when losing.
- Represent my team and club with pride and humility.
Parent / Guardian Code of Conduct
As a parent or guardian, I will:
Encourage Positive Play
- Support my child and the team in a positive way.
- Applaud effort and improvement over just winning.
- Let coaches coach — refrain from giving instructions from the sidelines.
Respect Officials, Coaches & Opponents
- Never confront referees, opposing coaches, players, or parents.
- Communicate concerns privately and respectfully with club staff when appropriate.
- Trust that referees and coaches are doing their best for the game and the kids.
Be a Role Model
- Avoid yelling, profanity, or negative comments.
- Demonstrate composure, integrity, and patience — especially in challenging moments.
- Encourage teamwork, respect, and fair play.
Support My Child’s Well-Being
- Make sure my child is on time, properly equipped, and ready to participate.
- Promote rest, proper nutrition, and prompt injury reporting.
- Understand that soccer is for the players — not for the parents.
Coach Code of Conduct
As a coach, I will:
Prioritize Player Development
- Put the long-term growth, skill-building, and enjoyment of every player ahead of short-term results.
- Give players meaningful playing time and opportunities to develop in a variety of positions.
Treat Every Player Fairly
- Apply the same standards, playing time philosophy, and discipline to all players without favoritism.
- Respect each player’s individual pace of development and personal circumstances.
Communicate Openly with Families
- Share clear, timely information about schedules, expectations, and player progress.
- Listen to parent and player concerns respectfully, and address them promptly and constructively.
Foster Respect, Discipline, and Teamwork
- Set clear standards of behavior and hold players accountable in a fair, age-appropriate way.
- Build a team culture centered on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared responsibility.
Serve as a Positive Role Model
- Model composure, integrity, and good sportsmanship at all times, including toward officials and opponents.
- Use encouraging, respectful language with players, families, referees, and opposing coaches.
Consequences for Violations
The club reserves the right to take appropriate disciplinary action if this Code is violated by a player, parent/guardian, or coach. Depending on the severity and frequency of the conduct, this may include:
- A verbal or written warning
- Suspension from practices or games
- Removal from the team or club
- Reporting to ENYYSA and/or LIJSL for further disciplinary review
Agreement
By participating in this club, players, parents/guardians, and coaches agree to follow this Code of Conduct and uphold the values of respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and safety.
