Spring 2020 Season Cancelled

Covid-19 update

UpdatedFriday May 1, 2020 byJeff Knoll.

Dear POBSC Families,

We hope this email finds you in good health during these very difficult times.  Every member of our community has personally been affected by this horrific pandemic and our hearts break for all of those that have lost loved ones.  While we grieve our losses, we are also in awe of those who continue to battle this virus on the front lines including our doctors and nurses, first responders, and all of the essential workers in our community who are keeping businesses and services open for the rest of us.  We owe all of you our eternal gratitude.

The Spring Soccer Season:

We have been communicating over the last several weeks that we were hopeful for a shortened Spring season so that the children can get back to playing the game that they love.  However, as much as we would like to get back on the field, the health and safety of the children in our club remain our number one priority. Earlier today, the Long Island Junior Soccer League, the league that governs our travel teams, made the difficult decision to cancel the Spring season.  Based on this, as well as continued guidance from state and local authorities,  Plainview-Old Bethpage Soccer is regretfully cancelling the Spring season for all Travel and Intramural Programs. This was not an easy decision, or one we took lightly, but is clearly in the best interest of all of our members.  This is the first time in our club's 46-year history that we have had to cancel an entire season and shows just how unprecedented and challenging these times are.

Spring Season Credits:

Please know that we understand that the question of Spring credits is a large one.  We have put into place a policy that allows us to credit as much as we possibly could to every family taking into account the costs we have already incurred as a club for these programs prior to the shutdown.  As you would expect, different programs pay both different amounts and at different times (Intramural and Travel pay for the full year, while Pre-Travel and Little Nuggets pay each season), so the credits offered vary depending on which program your child(ren) plays in.  Below is the amount that will be credited back to your account to be used for any future POBSC programs for any of your children.

  • Little Nuggets:  $170 Account Credit
  • Intramural: $70 Account Credit
  • U9 Pre-Travel: $225 Account Credit
  • Travel:  $80 Account Credit

We would like to offer an option of donating your credit to the Rudman Family Food Pantry at the Mid-Island Y JCC as a charitable donation. If you are interested in donating all or part of your credit or have any specific financial questions please email us at

What's Next?

Acknowledging that there are going to be many questions you and your children will have with regards to the future of our programs, please know that there are going to be multiple, program specific emails that we will be sending out in the coming weeks including information on:

-  Registration for both the Fall 2020 Intramural and Travel Seasons

-  The formation of our Fall Travel Teams

- The possibility of summer programs

- The incoming U10 Parent Meeting

- The Incoming U9 Parent Meeting

Please be patient with us as many of the above topics are highly dependent on when we will be permitted to get your children safely back on the fields.

In Conclusion:

These last 7 weeks have been a whirlwind for all of us in the POB community.  We want to thank you all for your patience, understanding, and continued support as we navigate thru it together.  Our passion for the game of soccer and watching your children enjoy playing it continues to drive us and we are looking forward to taking the necessary steps to move ahead both as a club and as a community together.

On behalf of the POBSC Executive Board, we thank you for continuing to support our club and our club's sponsors, and we can't wait to see you all again soon.

Stay Healthy and please feel free to reach out to us with any specific questions or concerns.
